Position Summary
We are seeking a highly collaborative and clinically knowledgeable Product Owner to lead client-facing Electronic Health Record (EHR) implementations. This role serves as the primary liaison between healthcare clients, clinical stakeholders, and technical delivery teams to ensure successful deployment, optimization, and adoption of a new EHR platform.
The ideal candidate combines strong product ownership experience with deep understanding of clinical workflows, regulatory requirements, and healthcare operations. This individual will drive product strategy while ensuring client satisfaction, alignment, and measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Client Engagement & Relationship Management
Serve as the primary Product Owner for assigned healthcare clients during EHR implementation.
Lead discovery and workflow assessment sessions with physicians, nurses, clinical operations, and executive stakeholders.
Translate client clinical and operational needs into clear product requirements and actionable user stories.
Provide consultative guidance on workflow redesign and system optimization.
Manage client expectations, priorities, and scope alignment.
Reverse Engineering & Workflow Redesign
Conduct reverse engineering of legacy EHR systems and clinical workflows to inform new system design.
Analyze existing documentation templates, order sets, reporting structures, and integrations.
Identify workflow inefficiencies, gaps, and compliance risks within current-state systems.
Design future-state workflows aligned to best practices, regulatory standards, and organizational goals.
Support data mapping, data migration strategy, and configuration alignment for new system implementation.
Clinical Workflow Expertise
Map current-state vs. future-state provider, nursing, and revenue cycle workflows.
Ensure EHR configuration aligns with clinical documentation, CPOE, care coordination, and billing processes.
Partner with clinical leadership to validate system usability and compliance.
Lead user acceptance testing (UAT) and clinical validation sessions.
Product Ownership & Agile Delivery
Own and prioritize the product backlog based on client and organizational priorities.
Write detailed user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
Collaborate with Scrum teams during sprint planning and delivery cycles.
Make real-time decisions on scope, trade-offs, and release planning.
Implementation & Integration
Support data migration, system configuration, and third-party integrations.
Ensure interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR) are met.
Work with enterprise EHR platforms such as Epic, Cerner (Oracle Health), MEDITECH, or similar.
Monitor go-live readiness and post-implementation performance metrics.
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
Ensure alignment with HIPAA, CMS, and ONC requirements.
Partner with security and compliance teams to mitigate risk and ensure audit readiness.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Health Informatics, or related field.
5+ years of experience in EHR implementation, healthcare IT product ownership, or clinical systems management.
Demonstrated experience reverse engineering legacy systems for redesign or replacement initiatives.
Proven experience working directly with healthcare clients in a consultative capacity.
Strong understanding of clinical documentation, provider workflows, and healthcare operations.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
Excellent stakeholder communication and presentation skills.
